Mentimeter 101

What is Mentimeter?

Mentimeter is an easy-to-use presentation software that allows to create fun and interactive presentations. By using Mentimeter, you can get real-time input from remote teams and online students with live polls, quizzes, word clouds, Q&As and more.

Is it free?

Yes, it is free. Free plans allow you to use most of the tools such as word clouds, multiple-choice questions, polls and rankings. Paid plans offer some extra resources e.g. exporting presentations to excel and customization of logos.

Do I have to download anything?

No. You only need to open https://www.mentimeter.com/ in your favourite browser.

Do I need to set up an account?

Yes. You can easily create it here.

Using your free Mentimeter account

The number of presentations you can create and the audience size are unlimited, thus the opportunities are endless. You can add as many slides as you want, but you can have up to 5 quiz-type slides and 2-question type slides per presentation. Now you have that in mind, let’s get started!

Open your Mentimeter account on your prefered internet browser.
Click on “New Presentation”.
You will reach the presentations page. You can create all your Mentimeter presentations from here. The types of questions or quizzes are on the right side. You should try all of them (at least the free ones).

Creating a new presentation

Let’s try making a sample presentation. I will show you with one of my favourite types, Word Clouds.

Click on “Word Cloud”.
Enter the question you would like your students to answer e.g. What does your Instagram picture say about you? You can even add images.
Set up the rules for this activity e.g. number of entries per student, let students submit multiple answers.
Click on “Present”.
On the top part of your presentation, you will see “Go to menti.com and use the code XX XX XX”. Tell your students to do so.

Let your students join your presentation.

Ask your students to go to menti.com and use the code. It can be done in a computer or a mobile device.
